Interest Rate: I'm ready for an emotional investment.
So, last winter I watched all eight seasons of Will & Grace in approximately six weeks. This was due to a deep desire to not do thesis-related research, as well as an intellectual justification that I was analyzing the common threads of what makes a successful long-running sitcom . . . you know what, I don't have to explain myself to you. This is the internet, and people like me are what make sites like this happen.
Anyways, needless to say I feel like I am now on close personal terms with Sean Hayes. I thought his supporting work was excellent, and when I heard he was starring in a new show, I was excited but more than a little bit skeptical. I mean, come on, could "Just Jack" be enough for a show?
After watching the preview, I am putting my optimistic foot forward and saying yes, this could be a great sitcom. Sean Hayes irrefutably has the comedic timing, and they're going against the grain here by actually giving the story a little heart. Of course Sean as the father figure is bumbling and out of touch, but he's trying so damn hard! I'm already rooting for him.
The ensemble cast, including Thomas Lennon as the gleefully sadistic boss ("You're a whore, Peter!") seems solid, with enough chemistry to keep the show going. I have decided to cast aside all doubts and declare that this sitcom is the one I was waiting for in the 2013-2014 season.
