I give props to the writers for showing the "pilot" of The Originals from Elijah's perspective, using his previously hidden presence in many of the scenes as a mechanism for anyone who chose to watch The Originals pilot without ever seeing any of The Vampire Diaries. But while this is a clever ruse--and seeing Elijah pull a strange Vulcan mind meld was certainly bizarrely entertaining--I have to ask what network executive thought that the percentage of new fans would be high enough that they needed this kind of service.
Basically, I have very little to add to my previous expressions of trepidation for this series, because I have so little information to go on. I can now definitely say that the witch-radar chick is not my favorite, but that's hardly surprising considering the CW code to go for pretty and make up for the rest with quick editing and pouting.
Klaus staking Elijah at the end of the episode did successfully piss me off, since Elijah's interaction with the blastedly hateful baby drama would have been interestingish.
Ah well, stay tuned until the second episode, when I hopefully have new things to hate.
